Recital applauded

Last Sunday evening at the Crawford Room of Natrona County Library, professor Paul Lyddon regaled an enthusiastic audience with a piano recital.

From the very beginning it was evident that a dedicated, soulful performer was at work. The first selection was an early sonata by Serge Prokofiev and Lyddon played it with impeccable taste, accuracy and refinement.

It was followed by a work by Maurice Ravel, Valses nobles at sentimentales. In it professor Lyddon really came through as a musician of highest caliber, with complete, effortless mastery of the keyboard and sheer poetry of expression.

The last item on the program was the third sonata by Chopin, played with the same warmth as the rest, a fine understanding of the style of this romantic composer, and a flawless technique to boot.

For an encore a very seldomly performed prelude by Rachmaninoff was the delightful ending to a really outstanding program.

It is hoped that professor Lyddon will return soon to Casper for another evening of fine piano music.
